Space Shuttle Enterprise Reaches Final Home At New York's Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum (VIDEO)

Space Shuttle Enterprise Rests At Last

The Space Shuttle Enterprise - the prototype for the entire space shuttle programme - has reached its final resting place in New York City.

The original shuttle is now on display in the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, under a giant inflatable dome.

The Enterprise never flew a mission in space, but performed crucial tests in Earth's atmosphere which paved the way for the formal space shuttle programme.

It was completed in 1976, and eventually enabled the US to launch more missions more regularly, for a much lower cost.
