Why I Encourage My Clients to Indulge Over Christmas

Now is the time of year when health and fitness tips are spreading like wild fire...7 Ways To Stay Slim Over Christmas or The Secret Solution To Sticking To Your New Year Resolutions...you know the type! Well although I am a Personal Trainer & Health Coach I encourage my clients to indulge over the Christmas period because we are more concerned about what happens between New Year to Christmas, not Christmas to New Year.

There was a time when this was the norm. In Victorian times people would join Goose Club's at their local pub and pay instalments over the year to have a goose on Christmas day, the local baker's would even stay open to cook the goose's for them. Unfortunately now though we have got it the wrong way round, indulging all year long and then the 2 weeks before Christmas or a holiday we think "Oh dear, better do something about this extra poundage!" instead of putting in the hard work over the long term to reap the rewards later.

As well as having this wrong we've also got exercise and eating the wrong way round too! When we were hunter gatherers we would have to exercise to eat not eat to exercise, like we do now or at least we do that because that's what we've been told to do by the people who sell us sports drinks and other such unnecessary foodstuffs.

Although the majority currently seem to get these things the wrong way round there are those who are getting it the right way round, such as my clients Rhian and Amma. Rhian has been coming to Smash The Fat East London for 9 months now and having dropped 20.8kg, 18cm from her waist and 20cm from her hips she has smashed it to say the least!

I know what you might be thinking "9 months is a short period of time in the grand scheme of things." Well how about Amma who has been coming to us for over 2 years now and has lost 23.7kg, 21cm from her waist and 20cm from her hips. Most importantly though she has maintained her new healthy weight with one of our core values, consistent persistence!

For myself I shall be indulging in whatever is on the dinner table and in the snack bowls in the lounge because as I mentioned at the beginning, I am more concerned with what I do between New Year to Christmas not Christmas to New Year and I highly recommend that you do the same ;)
