Anthea McIntyre MEP

Conservative MEP for the West Midlands

Anthea McIntyre became an MEP in 2011, and is the Conservative Employment Spokesman. In July 2014, she was elected as the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Co-ordinator on the Employment & Social Affairs Committee in the Parliament and in July 2015 joined the Science and Technology Options Assessment (STOA) panel. She also chairs the ECR's Working Group on Better Regulation and Re-shoring. In this area, Anthea was responsible for a Parliamentary report on "How can the Europe contribute to creating a hospitable environment for enterprises, businesses and start-ups to create jobs?"

Anthea also serves on the Agriculture Committee. She wrote a report on "The future of Europe's horticulture sector - strategies for growth", which was adopted by the European Parliament in 2014. She has now written a further report on “Technological Solutions for Sustainable Agriculture in the EU”. Anthea is also the rapporteur for the legislation on “Protective Measures against Pests of Plants", and has recently concluded trilogue negotiations between the European institutions.
She is a successful business woman, and a Director of MCP Systems Consultants, an independent consultancy specialising in business intelligence systems. Anthea won the European Woman of Achievement Award for Business in 1997 and in 2009 MCP won a national award for technological innovation in the Health Service. She is also a partner in the family’s agricultural small-holding and vineyard. She gained valuable experience as a Parliamentary Candidate in the West Midlands region – the heart of British manufacturing - and served for 8 years as a County Councillor. Anthea is also Chairman of Herefordshire Conservative Business Forum, Ambassador of the Federation of Small Businesses ‘Real Life Entrepreneur Campaign’, and a Patron of The Courtyard Centre for the Arts in Hereford.
