Gerbrandt van Heerden

Research Analyst, South African Institute of Race Relations (SAIRR)

Gerbrandt van Heerden is currently a research analyst at the South African Institute of Race Relations (SAIRR).  He started working at the SAIRR in August 2014 as a researcher and since January 2016 continued as a research analyst at the Centre of Risk Analysis housed within the SAIRR. In 2010, Gerbrandt became a student at the North West University, Potchefstroom campus, and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies.  He also went on to obtain his Master’s Degree in Political Sciences – his thesis topic on the leftist ideological shift in South Africa and the impact on the Tripartite Alliance.  In addition to his time at the SAIRR, Gerbrandt also participated as a radio DJ at GaySA Radio (Africa’s only LGBT radio station).  Furthermore, Gerbrandt worked as a part-time lecturer at the Northwest University.
