Gugu Nonjinge is an education and girl advocate, she has run a number of campaigns and advocacy work under her NPO [Gugu Nonjinge Education Foundation]. Gugu has written numerous papers and articles on the advancement girls rights in Africa and the empowerment of young women. She holds a BSc in Mathematics and is a founder of the Numbers Tutorial Program –- a professionally run weekly educational intervention that engages female grade 12 and grade 11 learners in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. In August 2015, she was awarded the Lead SA Hero award for the work that she does for young girls in Africa. Gugu is a former Executive Board Member of the Dream Girls International Outreach and Mentoring Program –- A mentorship programme that promotes the enrollment and success of young women in institutions of higher education. Gugu was selected to be part of the Preparing Global Leaders Academy that took place in Amman, Jordan in 2015. Moreover, she has been invited to speak at a number of gatherings and events such as the LOYD Sessions in Cape Town, The #FiresideChat hosted by UN Global Champion Alysia Silberg and ChangeThePlatform. Above all, Gugu is the co-founder of LeBrunchSA -- a start-up company that hosts facilitated social brunch/high tea/luncheons that engage young women from diverse backgrounds to connect and network. LeBrunchSA is set up to support education programmes such as; Reason2Read -- A book club accessible to girls in rural areas and informal urban areas. In March 2017, Gugu Nonjinge was awarded the Social Cohesion and Civil Society Youth Award by the National Youth Development Agency. She is now currently working at the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation as a Communications and Advocacy Officer.
