It is a time instead to pause and reflect. For the sake of our children, we need to rediscover some old virtues that our parents came to this country with.

Museji Ahmed Takolia CBE is a former senior civil servant who led the government’s strategy on diversity and equality at the Cabinet Office. He was also appointed by Secretaries of State at Education and Health, to the Boards of OFSTED and the Commission for Health Improvement, the former regulator of the NHS in England. In his public roles he is currently the (Interim) Chairman of the Wye Valley NHS Trust in Herefordshire, and Chair’s a pension savers consumer panel for the NEST Corporation.
This is the time for politicians of all hues to work with and not against the local and (new) national leadership in the Muslim communities. It may be weak and poorly organised, led largely by volunteers. But who is out there to engage with the Muslim community and bring a semblance of understanding and balance as well as practical support to the challenges they face to get things right?
