Philip Moriarty

Physicist. Rush fan. Father of three. (Not Rush fans. (Yet)). Rants not restricted to the key of E minor.

I'm a professor of physics at the University of Nottingham, father of three, and a major heavy metal fan.

I work with a fantastic bunch of researchers in the Nottingham Nanoscience Group and we spend our days interrogating and manipulating the basic atomic building blocks of matter using scanning probe microscopes. We're exploring whether we can develop 3D printing with single atoms -- i.e. can we develop a matter compiler?

As an educator I also have a keen interest in education (spanning primary to tertiary levels, and beyond), and public engagement with science via both social media and 'real world' interactions.

I don't share my infamous namesake's fascination with the binomial theorem nor, I hope, his "hereditary tendencies of the most diabolical kind".
