Suzy Madge

Adventure psychologist, ski mountaineer and speaker who loves sport, the outdoors and is curious about what makes us happy

Adventure, sport, and curiosity about people get Suzy out of bed or sleeping bag in the morning. Early life hitting little fuzzy tennis balls lead to an understanding about how to both achieve..and fail. A good tennis player - represented UK at junior level - the passion wasn't there to endure the suffering and drudgery of practice. Later, however, her passion for skiing and then mountaineering was awakened whilst also windsurfing, kitesurfing and competing in ultra marathons and elite adventure racing. High altitude walking following a sporting ban due to a kitesurfing accident introduced her to her ultimate passion, ski-mountaineering, "the best fun you can have with your clothes on". A British altitude skiing record, climbing and skiing from the top of Cho Oyu, 6th highest mountain in the World at 8, 201m lead to a groundbreaking ski-mountaineering trip in Afghanistan. She visited an area of the country where no one had ever been before, navigating with no maps or photos and climbing and skiing 6 new peaks. Two babies temporarily curtailed the expeditions, but gave her the opportunity to complete a masters in Positive Psychology - the science of happiness, and represent the United Kingdom at beach tennis. Suzy loves sharing what she has endured, enjoyed and learnt over the years and hopes that others can gain a little inspiration, entertainment, wisdom and life betterment from her blogs.
