Peter Kay has returned to social media to slam a Channel 5 documentary about him.

The comedian took to Twitter to set the record straight about the making of Peter Kay Comedy Genius: In His Own Words, insisting he had not been involved in its production.

Prior to it airing on Channel 5 on Sunday night, Peter’s reps branded the show’s title “incredibly misleading” in a post on his account.

It read: “Very flattering of Channel 5 to commission the programme going out tonight, but just to let people known that ‘Peter Kay: In His Own Words’ has an incredibly misleading title, as it doesn’t feature any new interviews with Peter and all the footage is completely historic.

“The title also gives the impression that Peter has been involved in the making of this documentary, which he hasn’t.

“At all.”

The message came more than two months after the star last posted on the site.

On Sunday, Peter was also pictured attending a performance of Nativity The Musical in London.

He has been largely out of the spotlight since cancelling his 100-date stand-up tour in December 2017.

In a statement he released at the time, Peter said his “family must always come first” and that he “deeply regretted” the decision to cancel all upcoming work projects.

He continued: “My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first.

“I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media. I hope that the media and the public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again, I’m very sorry.”

While he has yet to reschedule his tour, his Car Share co-star Sian Gibson teased in November last year that the pair had “something in the pipeline”.
