Dr Roger Barker

IoD’s Director of Corporate Governance, author and lecturer

Dr Roger Barker is Director of Corporate Governance at the Institute of Directors (IoD) in the UK.
A former international investment banker and lecturer at the University of Oxford, Dr Barker oversees the IoD’s approach to corporate governance, board effectiveness, risk management, company law and corporate responsibility.
He is a director of European Women on Boards ASBL, a Senior Advisor to the Board of the European Confederation of Directors’ Association (ecoDa), and Chairman of the ecoDa Education Committee.
He is a visiting lecturer at Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford, ESSEC Business School in Paris, University College London, and the UK Ministry of Defence and is the author of a number of books including “Corporate Governance, Competition, and Political Parties: Explaining Corporate Governance Change in Europe”, published by Oxford University Press, and co-author of the IoD’s main guide to the role of the board, “The Effective Board: Building Individual and Board Success”.
