Sophie Tanner

Writer, performer and sologamist

Sophie Tanner lives a mere stone's throw from Brighton beach with her bumptious labrador. She is eternally curious about human behavior and has a strong interest in literature, music and theatre. Her first novel, Happily, is a cheeky, light-heartedly subversive tale about a girl who decides to marry herself. In a perfect example of life imitating art, Sophie married herself at Brighton Fringe festival in May 2015. The ceremony was well-received and aimed to encourage a cultural mind shift; empowering other people to accept and celebrate themselves.

How To Keep Your Dog Happy

Sometimes dogs can come across as pretty dumb, with their repetitive behaviour and slobbery fixations, but then we're all guilty of chasing our own tail on occasion. I personally think they're actually on a much higher plane to us.

Feeling Lonely? Stop Online Dating and Start Befriending

Unfortunately dating apps offer a quick fix of false intimacy, which can become addictive to people who are feeling lonely. Yet the cause of loneliness doesn't always come from being alone, it comes from a lack of deep and meaningful relationships, which take time and can't realistically be built on a foundation of pouting selfies and sexting.

Food For Thought: The Future is an 8-Course Tasting Menu

Cultural norms are shifting and, in this new era of longevity, people are breaking the traditional moulds that have previously defined status. Cultural commentator and co-founder of the Women's Equality Party, Catherine Mayer, says life-extension and life-enhancing technologies like the ability to freeze eggs are leading to an age of 'amortality',

Why Aren't Spinsters Eligible?

The benefits of sologamy are numerous; I am definitely still in the honeymoon period. I take my commitment to myself seriously and see being single as a viable lifestyle choice.
