If there's one thing that the modern world is good at, it's inventing ways to avoid doing even the basic amount of exercise that humans require in order to not die.

To that end, enter the Acton R RocketSkates -- aka actual Rocket Boots.

This new Kickstarter project is billed as the "world's first smart wearable mobility" product, aka "strap-in, smart electric skates".

Since hitting Kickstarter a few days ago they have already passed their funding target of $50,000 by almost three times over (and there are still 42 days to go).

Here's how they're described:

"Remote controllers? We don't need remote controls! Your hands are now free for interpretive dance moves as you cruise about town- your feet control the skates.

Each skate has two hub motors controlled by an on-board microprocessor, and are powered by a lithium-ion battery pack. The skates communicate with each other so they maintain the same speed and behavior.

RocketSkates™ connect to smartphone via the ACTON App. You can monitor your skates and their performance. Route tracking, skate diagnosis, battery status, games, and social interactivity; the app keeps you in touch with other RocketSkaters."

We have to admit these things look cool, but it remains to be seen how things like battery life affect whether or not they'll be a genuine way to get around.

Still, if you like the idea you can bag a pair by buying-in early to the Kickstarter, which you can find here.
