Rachael Cronin filed a class-action lawsuit against the company, stating that the balm caused her a severe and painful reaction.

According to the court documents, Cronin used the lip balm but found her lips becoming “substantially dry and coarse". As she didn't realise this was due to the EOS, she continued to apply it.

What happened next was pretty terrifying...

The court documents state: "[Her lips] began severely cracking on the edges causing flaking and bleeding from the cracks. By the next day, Ms. Cronin’s lips and surrounding skin area had severe blistering and rashes causing her to seek medical care.

"Ms. Cronin’s condition consisted for approximately 10 days. [She] shared the story of her experience with EOS and posted a picture of her face with boils and blisters on Facebook.

"The post set off a frenzy of responses from other individuals who shared the identical experience with EOS. It became clear this was a massive national health problem."

Dozens of other social media users have taken to Facebook to post their own photos and stories on the brand's page.

A spokesperson for EOS told HuffPost UK Style: "We firmly believe this lawsuit is without merit.

"Our products are made with the highest quality ingredients and meet or exceed all safety and quality standards set out by our industry and validated by rigorous testing conducted by an independent lab.

"The health and well-being of our customers is our top priority and millions of satisfied customers use our products every day, many of whom take the time to share their experiences with us."
