PhD scientist, former escort, Himalayan guide & street beggar

Planetary scientist, former whore, slum worker, Himalayan mountain guide, street beggar and all round super star.

I run the feisty science outreach project called ‘Science Hooker’.

I'm in my final year as a PhD student at the University of Glasgow where I study the loss of the early atmosphere of Mars, and what lessons this loss might provide for tackling climate change on Earth.

Pride And Shame

Not pride and back slapping well done all rounds. I don't want my grief to be sanitised with commercialised celebrations of exaggerated unity. Keep your coloured bit of rainbow cloth. I do not want it. It means little to me. My reality and lived experience do not relate to it.

Bang Bang... Why Science Gets Shot Down In The Media Gunfight

The media and public tidal wave of alternative facts, misrepresented data, invented nonsense and malicious deception overwhelms and saturates the discussion platform environment with such startling and ever increasing rapidity that measured scientific response to it becomes impossible.

Scientific Ego And The Value Of Failure

We would get to Mars quicker by doing so. We would understand the consequences of fracking and geoengineering on our planet better by doing so. It would entirely adjust the way modern academic science operates. So where does this start? Who goes first discussing how they fail in their life tasks? Who damages their career and reputation first? Will you?

Trotsky Would Laugh

Labour has forgotten what its name means. Labour is a movement of the common labour force, not a centre right tepid mediocracy, nor a diluted moderate Conservatism.

The Lords Are Not Our Saviour

We illegally bomb 'democracy' into foreign lands that happen to possess resource or geopolitical value. We all play a role in these 'liberty' crusades. We are all culpable proselytizers of democracy at any price. Yet the dis-united Kingdom remains a feudal land.

The Death of DECC: What's in a Name?

The death of DECC is not simply a linguistic destruction. We now have an (unelected) government leadership that dismisses the need for a carbon reduction strategy and is consistently opposed to climate regulation measures on business and industry.

How Exploring Mars Could Help Us Fight Climate Change on Earth

There is a near-endless variety of ways that unpicking the chemical evolution of one planet might better inform geoengineering actions on our own. For example, understanding the long-term fate of Martian carbonates and how they interact with the atmosphere and hydrosphere, will teach us how effective this form of carbon storage might be on Earth.

Meeting Aliens: Why We Must Not Send Humans to Mars

Life may exist on Mars. This is not crazy ranting from a tin foil hat redneck who has crop circle tattoos on their back, enjoys alcohol induced communions with a wounded mother Earth and is married to their sister called Kynleigh. I'm a planetary scientist specialising in Mars chemistry. Let me explain why sending human missions to Mars would be disastrous.

Legal Prostitutes Are Safer: Don't Be French!

Laws do not and will never stop the trade of sex. Decreeing sex work illegal simply puts already vulnerable people in greater danger. Social integration, discourse and an informed flexible legal structure is the way forward. Prostitutes need platforms, not cells.

Science Research: Why Stealing Is Okay If You Are Being Robbed

It would take a single mum, working a backshift in Asda for £6.70 an hour before tax, half a day's labour to access just one science article on a topic that interests her. As a researcher with free access, it often takes me 5-6 articles before I manage an informed opinion on a matter.
