Allan Pamba

Allan is VP Pharmaceuticals, East Africa at GSK. His role focuses on the sustainable delivery of GSK medicines and vaccines to countries across the region via innovative business models. He is also responsible for government affairs across Africa.

Previously, he was director of public engagement and access initiatives in GSK’s developing countries and market access team, where he set up innovative initiatives to enhance access to medicines and vaccines across 50 countries, including the UN 48 Least Developed Countries.

Allan trained as a physician in Kenya and worked in clinical care in the country for government services, mission hospitals and research hospitals. He conducted clinical trials on the management of severe malaria in children at the Wellcome Trust Research Unit in Kilifi, Kenya and established one of the country’s first HIV Comprehensive Care Clinics.

He joined GSK in 2005 and was initially involved in strategic and tactical leadership of R&D programmes in Diseases of the Developing World, in particular HIV and malaria. He led medical governance for over 30 large HIV collaborative trials in Africa and Asia and led a phase III clinical development programme with two large trials in Africa developing a new anti-malarial medication.

He has an MSc in Public Health in Developing Countries from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. This year, he was appointed co-chair of the United Nations Innovation Working Group.
