Andile Justice Mkonto

BBA candidate in London, South African township boy, Ubuntu Education Fund beneficiary, intern, and ambassador — describes himself as “not weird, just living life upside down.”

Originally from the townships of South Africa, Andile is the eldest of three orphans. From the age of 13 he was forced to skip school to care for his younger siblings and sick mother. When his mother passed away due to “a drastic disease”, Andile had to throw away his childhood altogether, taking on the role of breadwinner. Despite his tragic start, Andile was fortunate to benefit from the support of Ubuntu Education Fund, where he received comprehensive support for his whole family. After completing his A-Levels at the prestigious African Leadership Academy and exploring his entrepreneurial side, Andile co-founded a sub-contracting company called Get Active Construction and Projects. Now 22, Andile is studying towards a degree in International Business Management at Hult International Business School in London, double majoring in Management and Marketing. He continues to be active in youth empowerment in South Africa, both at Ubuntu and at Tumbuka-ignite.
