Brix Smith Start

Owner, START boutiques

Brix Smith Start is a unique talent, combining extensive fashion knowledge, a history in rock and roll and a fantastic portfolio of television presenting roles.

Brix joined the legendary British band The Fall in 1983 as a guitarist/singer/songwriter. She recorded and released numerous albums with The Fall and left for good back in 1996. She went on to release 2 solo albums under the name Adult Net in the years following The Fall.

Brix has since gone on to pursue a career in acting, presenting and most notably, in fashion. She sits on multiple fashion panels, including Fashion East and is regularly asked to judge student fashion and modeling competitions.

One of Brix’s priorities is discovering and nurturing emerging British design talent, and through her store she provides them with a platform to showcase their collections to the world.

Having launched her first boutique START with her husband Philip Start
in 2002, they have since pretty much taken over Rivington Street in East
London, with 3 boutiques and an online store (www.start-london.com).

The START stores are A-list boutiques, and are considered to be amongst the best stores in the world (cited so by Vogue, April 2010).

Brix is one of the most recognized faces in fashion and works on multiple TV projects. She has most recently completed her fourth series on Gok’s Fashion Fix (Channel 4) as Gok’s rival stylist, has co-presented ‘Fashion Fridays’ on Sky One’s Angela & Friends, appears regularly on ITV’s This Morning presenting the Fashion Live in addition to co-hosting Promzillas for Sky 1 and is soon to appear in an acting role in Parents, a comedy on Sky 1.

Brix lives in London with her husband Philip Start and her two pugs, Gladys and Pixie.
