Mike Lean

Physician, specialist in nutrition, obesity, diabetes, public health and health promotion. Passionate interests in Scotland, hills and music

Professor Lean is a trained and practicing medical doctor, fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of Edinburgh and Glasgow, and also has an extensive experience in Public Health and Health Promotion, having served as a non-executive Director of the Health Education Board for Scotland for 8 years, and as Chair of the Advisory Committee for Research for the Food Standards Agency in London. He holds Professorships at the University of Glasgow and Otago. As a researcher, mainly in Nutrition, Obesity and Diabetes,, he was one of only 19 scientists from all disciplines in Scotland to be included in the Thomson-Reuters 'Highly-Cited' listing, of the top 1% of researchers world-wide. His other interests, interestingly all shared with his children, include Scottish politics, mountain-climbing and traditional fiddle-playing.
