Euro 2017 continues until Sunday August 6. The tournament so far has been exciting, and a chance for women footballers to get the spotlight. Hopefully it will lead to more growth of football for women, and the potential to one day be as popular worldwide as the men's game.

Ultimately, companies that are transparent about pay, and consider the root causes of why they may have a gender pay gap in the first place, are most likely to find the solutions necessary to tackle the issue once and for all. In doing so, they can be more proud of their business position which will more accurately reflect current society.

There's a saying that 'life begins at 40'. As life expectancy has increased due to advances in medicine and technology, more of us can expect to live to a ripe old age, meaning that being 40 is around the midway point in life for many. It may be a good point to take stock of your life, look at where you've been, and think about where you want to go in the future.

Today (Thursday 10 November) marks the last day of the working year for women throughout the UK - or so it should. From now until the end of 2016, working women are now, on average, providing their services for free - highlighting the 9.4% gap between average pay of full-time male and female employees.

Changes to the way people think will be needed to close the apprenticeship gender gap for women; we still need to adjust the mind-set which says that certain careers and sectors are for one gender or another, and we need to ensure that young women know enough about potential careers and outcomes while they are able to make those important decisions about their futures. If we can do this, perhaps during next year's National Apprenticeship Week we could be celebrating that gender gap closing.
