Ranvir Singh

As far back as she can remember, Ranvir’s Dad would make sure the whole family was sitting quietly when the evening news came on. He'd say - you have to know what's happening in the world - and it stuck with Ranvir for life! Though she never thought she’d make a career out of it...

After finishing university, Ranvir went through her career choices. These were namely becoming a solicitor or a teacher (lack of a biology GCSE ruled out being a doctor). A friend then suggested that, with her English degree, she should try writing the news.

After enrolling herself on a post-grad diploma in broadcast journalism, everything fell into place. Ranvir gained a six month contract at BBC local radio before she'd even finished the course. She went on to produce and present radio news programmes, report, and read the news for several years, before moving to television. In 2007, after a couple of years as a TV reporter, including specialising in education, she was asked to be the permanent presenter of the BBC evening news programme in the north west of England. Combined with regular presenting on breakfast shows, and phone-ins on Five Live radio, Ranvir has covered everything from major sporting events, to political car crashes (Gordon Brown's bigot moment being her most memorable) to gangland shootings.

Ranvir presents 6am-7am on Daybreak, as well as the news every 30 minutes. Since joining Daybreak, Ranvir has covered many major news stories including the Woolwich attacks and more recently, has visited Sierra Leone for the breakfast TV programme.
