You might want to rethink your weekend plans, as strong winds, heavy rains and snow have been predicted to hit all over the country in the next few days.

Yellow weather warnings, which means people should prepare for severe weather that could cause disruption to day-to-day activities and travel delays, have been issued for Saturday across most of the United Kingdom.

Heavy snow is expected in the far north of England, most of Scotland and Northern Ireland, especially over high ground.

The coverage is expected to be up to 20cm deep in some places potentially causing significant travel delays.

Strong winds are expected to batter over the south and west of the country hitting speeds of up to 70mph on the coast and will last from early Saturday morning well into the night.

Further inland flood warnings have been issued around central Wales, Manchester and the Pennines. A spokeswoman for the Met Office said the the region could experience “minor river flooding as well as floods caused by surface water.”

The poor weather is being caused by low pressure being brought in from the Atlantic, and will create chaos over Ireland and across the entire western and southern coast of Britain.

The spokeswoman said most of western side of the country could expect “heavy outbreaks of rain.”

Although the worst of the weather is happening on Saturday, the spokeswoman said “Sunday will still be quite blustery.”

The severe weather from Saturday will deteriorate into a smattering of showers across the country with the potential for hail on Sunday.

The period of unsettled weather has not yet been given a storm name, but parts of the country have only just recovered from storm Gareth which battered areas at the start of the week.

The storm led to trains being cancelled in Manchester, London and Glasgow with gusts of 75mph being recorded in Scotland.

On the bright side, it will all be over by Monday with clear sky’s and light winds predicted, just in time for work.
