The presenter later took to Twitter to reveal exactly what had caused the confusing moment.
The pair knew each other prior to appearing on the ITV reality show.
The I'm A Celebrity star said she "buried her head in her hands" after the infamous gaffe.
"I don’t feel that I have to be in a box, or labelled in a particular way," the BBC broadcaster said.
"I know, more than lots of people, life is short," the BBC journalist said.
The new series of the ITV show, which is relocating Australian jungle to a Welsh castle this year, kicks off next Sunday.
