Broadchurch is an ITV detective series starring Olivia Colman as Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller and David Tennant as Detective Inspector Alec Hardy. Who killed Danny Latimer? was the question posed in season one, which became the most discussed show in the country when it debuted in 2013. There was a long list of suspects including even the dead boy’s grieving parents, played by Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan, a solitary shopkeeper, an enigmatic priest, played by Doctor Who actor Arthur Darvill, even the policewoman’s own husband Joe Miller (Matthew Gravelle). The identity of the murderer brought fresh shocks and family splits. But that wasn't the end of the story… Series two saw Alec Hardy tortured by this case, AND the previous case of Sandbrook where he failed to find the abductor of two girls. James Darcy and Eve Myles played a complex pair of witnesses to this historic case. Meanwhile, Charlotte Rampling and Marianne Jean-Baptiste did battle as barristers in the courtroom. Season 3, airing in 2017,
focuses on a new case, which sees Hardy and Miller investigating the assault of a local woman, with Sarah Parish, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Lenny Henry and Roy Hudd joining the cast.
