The FTSE 100 (pronounced and occasionally written 'footsie') is the index of the 100 largest companies listed on the London Stock Exchange. It measures the daily performance of the companies' share prices. The index is 'up' if more people are buying than selling shares, and 'down' if the reverse is true.
