Huw Edwards issued an apology after a reporter mistakenly referred to the former US president during a report on Cosby.
The newsreader urged people to "keep safe and follow the guidelines".
Newsreader Huw Edwards, who also appeared in the ad, said his "thoughts on this kind of stunt are unprintable".
The move came in the wake of the scandal following Carrie Gracie’s resignation as China editor.
"I think I’ve just got to ponder it... just gauge public opinion."
It follows John Humphrys' controversial off-air comments about pay.
