The great thing about horse racing is I don't feel that level of expectation I used to with cycling. I have worked long and hard with my team of experts to prepare for today, but there are so many things that can happen in a race that you have to go in to it with an open mind and that for me takes the pressure off.
I spent the three days 'tour chasing' and I am confident that this triumphant spectacle can leave a lasting legacy if we let it... until now the next generation of cyclists has been "let down" by a lack of safe roads... now we just need to see the representative Government investment to ensure this passion has a deep and lasting impact.
The phrase 'Olympic legacy' has been reverberating around the ears of every British citizen, and by now it is beginning to make a bit of a racket. And as we arrive at the one year anniversary of what was an awe-inspiring event and survey the scene, everyday inhabitants of this fantastic island are forced to question the reality of said legacy.
There is no sign that British cycling's success story will end on 31 December 2012, nor much denting of cycling's growing popularity as a participation sport exercise.
