Nic Williams is an adoptive mother of two and an entrepreneur. Nic has had a varied career, ranging from domestic banking, running a women's refuge, delivering leadership courses and teaching English in sunny Barcelona. All this was before she set up My Own Den.

My Own Den is an online shop selling beautiful things, ethically made for children's bedrooms. We are based in Cambridge UK. My Own Den is passionate about creating the perfect space to allow children to flourish.

Like all parents I try my best to do what I think is right. No doubt I mess up at times, I might be raising financially illiterate kids (the signs are otherwise; my son is a keen negotiator when buying records). My main motivation is to try and make my kids childhood as stressfree as I possible. I'd be interested to know what approach you take.

Did your family happen the way you planned it? Mine didn't. My plan was to have two children close together before I was 40. I was so used to getting what I wanted I didn't counter the possibility it might not happen. On my 40th birthday I was childless.

When someone announces a pregnancy, congratulations frequently come easily and naturally. On the other hand, an adoption announcement doesn't always get the same reaction. I speak from experience; my two children are adopted. My son came to us when he was 3.5 years, and our daughter came to us when she was 10 months.

I Don't Have it All - What I Do Before I Start 'Work'

I follow '<a href="https://twitter.com/manwhohasitall?lang=en-gb" target="_hplink">Man Who Has it all'</a> on twitter. Sometimes it makes me laugh, sometimes I post a snide reply and other times it makes me cross. If you haven't heard about it, it's a parody of how woman have to juggle family and business life but with roles reversed.
