Mary Shelley fascinated readers with her idea of Dr Frankenstein being able to create intelligent life from corpses. The notion that people could create beings that could think and feel as humans do is by no means a modern invention. As society and technology develop, the concept is increasingly becoming a reality. But the fear that AI will turn on humanity and become like HAL 900 or the Terminator may be a tad dramatic.
This widespread uptake of autonomous vehicles will re-shape our cities further. With seamless, and instant, on-demand autonomous vehicles, why own a car? Why pay for parking? Why devote so much precious urban real-estate to inanimate metal objects? An MIT study estimated that Singapore could reduce the number or vehicles by two-thirds with full automation.
Contained within the paradox is the necessity for manual expertise. We can indeed take this one step further, as not only must the operator be extremely adept in their profession, they must be able to retain their expertise after lengthy periods of inactivity, beyond overseeing and monitoring automation systems.

Most of the adverts show happy people making cakes, or getting directions or finding out fun facts. Some show smart speakers capable of controlling lights or music. Sounds great right? Well, is it really easier to say, "Alexa turn off the light" than, just, turning off the light? I think not.

To me, there's a huge connection, I think the key to how brands are starting to create this emotional connection is now rooted in technologies that are helping these brands understand what customers really need most to spur a buying decision.
