As I grew up, I realised that superheroes really did exist. They don't wear capes or spandex, though. You won't seeing them flying in the clouds, riding neon-coloured cars, or swinging across buildings. Some of them wear stethoscopes, some of them wear a uniform and some we will never know their names.
You sometimes even cycled somewhere just for pleasure (remember that word 'pleasure', it's important). You'd enjoy the sheer pleasure of cycling through the countryside - unhindered, free, at one with nature...the wind in your hair, the smell of manure in your nostrils...well, you get the idea. But not anymore.
Another film about superhe-oh, wait, villains? Shame, I think they're still the heroes. How boring. Suicide Squad was rated 15 - it sure doesn't seem it. Not necessarily failing the target audience, but they will recognise missed potential. Tweens would lap up this straightline shit for breakfast. Soundtrack's decent though.
I've always been a fan of classic films, film making in general has always been magical to me. And nowhere does it's history lie more deeply engrained than Hollywood. I remember watching the That's Entertainment series as a child and being completely entranced by the snapshot into the archives and insights into what happened behind the camera.
No matter how crazy the outside world might seem to be, the sanctity of the cinema always provides a refuge. It has been much needed this past month and I expect it will continue to be for the foreseeable future. It helps that the content on screen has been strong this year too, and what initially seemed like a tricky year admissions wise, has so far offered pleasant surprises at regular intervals.
Is it a man? Is it a bird? No! Mums ~ It's a Superhero! Whoosh! And our small, caped crusading Superman (sorry, mixing him up with Batman... NANA!!!) just flew past with tea-towel outstretched and wrapped about him, on his way to save the world, defeat the bad guys, and rescue a dog from an exploding volcano.
A man who delighted thousands of children by impersonating Batman at hospitals and charity events has died after being hit by his own Batmobile. Le...
