Like lots of people I had a dream to travel the world. Not in bite size two week trips. I wanted to really travel and have the luxury of getting to know a country inside and out, to do yoga in India, stay with tribes in Vietnam and generally be a bit of a hippy with an income that required little work.
Please don't stop at dreaming. Do something about it. There really are loads of opportunities out there which will help you to change your life for the better. I've distilled some of these ideas into a handy list for you. This is your 'what I could do after maternity leave' list. Read it, pick out a few, and develop them into your own ideas.
There will be moments when you do a double take on your lifestyle... Just because there isn't a graduate scheme for it, doesn't mean you can't do the work you want to do. Go old school, send some emails, make some calls, and set yourself up... if you offer something good enough, the clients will come trotting.
When I started working from home 12 years ago, I was only receiving a download speed of 2 Mbps and 0.25 Mbps upload, compared to my current download speed of 20 Mbps, alongside a 6 Mbps upload connection. How times have changed. Home working can be a challenge, but thanks to the rise in social media, it's easier to avoid the problem of isolation that can easily creep up on people.
Work from home schemes are posted all over the web and are particularly prevalent in the UK, USA and Canada, but are they all genuine? Many people who apply for work-at-home positions are struggling to make ends meet. Scams abound so it is important to be vigilant as to which are genuine and which are not. Crimes involving the weak, needy and disabled are particularly reprehensible.
