The Pokemon Company has announced Pokemon Sleep, a new app in development which promises to “turn sleeping into entertainment”. The app will track a user’s sleeping patterns and use them to influence gameplay, building on the work of walking-based Pokemon Go. Pokemon Sleep will be available in 2020.
WhatsApp has fixed a security glitch after concerns hackers could inject surveillance software on to phones via the call function. There were fears it targeted human rights campaigners. The app said the breach hit only a “select number of users” and released a software update on 13 May.
“Mobile phones and other digital devices such as laptop computers, tablets and smart watches can provide important relevant information and help us investigate what happened."
5G, or fifth generation wireless technology, is considered the next game-changing innovation. Increasing internet speeds up to 100 times faster than 4G, and with close to zero latency, this new wireless network would transform the way we use media, driverless cars, communications, and much more. Internationally, large telecoms companies are in a race to develop the technology and build the infrastructure needed to carry the 5G signal. The UK government announced it would use some of the technology developed by China’s Huawei, a move which has caused national security concern over exposure to the Chinese government on the communication systems.
It comes amid reports that May bypassed Cabinet concerns about security and working with the firm.
