Be specific, stop the loggers. Climate Revolution is working with the charity, Cool Earth; working with indigenous people they are ring-fencing the forest to stop the loggers and so protect the interior. They are on track. So far they have raised £20million in actual money and in kind from practical support from governments. We need another £114million to save the whole world equatorial forest by 2020. The Queen has welcomed the Commonwealth's commitment to protect the forest in her name using the Cool Earth model to halt the destruction of rainforest.
On Wednesday 11 November 2015, we brought together more than thirty fashion designers, leading journalists and CEOs of major brands, retailers and manufacturers at the UK Houses of Parliament to discuss how sustainability can be taken to scale in the fashion and textiles industry and how the new Mysource.io platform will make that possible.
Throughout the world, in every walk of life people are changing their values. Save a plastic bag and you have already begun to think. We wanted to be a focus for that. And we link with other NGO's so that we all speak with the same voice. My fashion and my activism support each other - they are driven by the same motor. "I want a better world." I say, "Buy less, choose well, make it last." Quality not quantity. I use my green politics for graphics on clothes and our shows have these themes. I use every opportunity to open my mouth for our activism. We will fuse our fashion website with Climate Revolution.
We have abused our world for so long that we take it for granted that there is no other way to behave. We like things as they are and we learnt to love lies. Lies are good for you - they make you feel better. We are the last generation who can stop climate change and save the world from mass extinction. James Lovelock guessed that by the end of this century there would be only one billion people left. He thinks we're too late to stop it because we are too stupid. Scientists all agree we must act now, they are not sure how much time we have and if time has run out.
Smashing communities, laying up trouble and expense for the future. What can we do? Politicians are criminals. Vote for who you believe in. Tactical voting is rubbish. After the election, fight for every issue. Demonstrate. Build the public debate. Talk to people. The social media can help to build a wave of opposition to government crimes against humanity. Talk, talk, inform yourself. And most important show your face: Demonstrate. Build the opposition, see what happens - take it from there.
When it was broadcast on the radio "eat less" came out as a ridiculous blunder - as if I had said that people who were hungry or could only afford to eat hamburgers should eat less. Of course poor people don't have any choice. Half the world is hungry, poverty increases; everyone is so worried. Therefore people were angry with me. Luckily the press then reported my interview in full and this cleared up what I was really trying to say. They quoted me, "What's good for the planet is good for people". Most importantly the press then posted the fundamental question: Is Big Ag.( agricultural capitalism) good or bad? This is the urgent debate we must have.
