Chelsea's sole meeting with Juventus on the continent ahead of Wednesday night's clash came during the Blues' route to that heartbreaking semi-final defeat on away goals to Barcelona in the 2008/09 Champions League round-of-16.

One-nil up from the first leg at Stamford Bridge - naturally courtesy of the talismanic Didier Drogba - the Blues fell behind twice at Juve's interim home, the Stadio Olimpico, but twice recovered thanks to Michael Essien and Drogba.

Vincenzo Iaquinta and the iconic Alessandro del Piero both registered for Juve, meaning that tonight's fixture is bereft of the game's four goalscorers three-and-a-half-years on.

For the Bianconeri, it marks the last time they played in the knockout phase of the competition. Their shock elimination at the group stage the following campaign pre-dated their two-year absence from the Champions League.

But now Italy's most successful domestic side are back after winning last season's Scudetto without losing a game.
