Euro 88 may be synonymous with one goal, but it was the culmination of a nation finally overcoming their underachieving tag to win some much overdue silverware.

Holland, the perennial underachievers who fell short at the 1974 and 1978 World Cups, triumphed in West Germany exhibiting the panache their forefathers incepted.

It was just eight teams in 88, but the quality was high (apart from Denmark and England), and the crescendo from Marco van Basten was perfection...
