Jonathan Woodgate has re-signed for boyhood club Middlesbrough, subject to a medical, after his contract expired with Stoke City.
The 32-year-old centre-back initially joined Boro on loan from Real Madrid in 2006, before signing a permanent deal for £7m in April 2007. He was sold to Tottenham Hotspur nine months later for £8m after making 46 appearances.
The Teeside club, managed by Tony Mowbray, finished seventh in the Championship last season - five points off the playoff places.
