The US presenter and comedian has returned to the Ellen DeGeneres Show after testing positive for coronavirus last month.
In the wake of her diagnosis, Ellen said she was halting production of her daytime talk show until early 2021.
The actor recalled how his Conservative Political Action Conference prank almost went off the rails.
"Today we are starting a new chapter," the host said as she opened a new series.
"I was never a victim guys, I was always in on the joke," the Modern Family actor insisted.
Her comments come as Ellen's in-house DJ Stephen "tWitch" Boss addressed allegations of a toxic work environment on the US show.
Former employees on The Ellen DeGeneres Show have made allegations of racism, unfair dismissal and intimidation, perpetuated by the show’s senior producers.
