Alan Smith has signed for MK Dons on a two-year deal.
The former Leeds and Manchester United striker joins the League One club after he made 18 appearances and scored two goals during loan spell from Newcastle United last season.
Smith, 31, endured a barren five years on Tyneside as he failed to score a single goal for the Magpies as they were relegated to the Championship in 2009.
He did however help to elevate the club back up to the Premier League as champions after one season.
A boyhood Leeds United fan, Smith transferred across the Pennines to Manchester in 2004 having previously promised he would never play for the club Leeds fans despise pathologically.
He scored just 12 goals in three campaigns with United as he was downgraded from a striker to a midfielder, but progress was hampered by a horrific leg break at Anfield during an FA Cup match in February 2006.
Smith won one Premier League title in his final season at Old Trafford before he departed for St James' Park for £6m in 2007.
