Angel di María will complete his £59.7 million British record transfer to Manchester United from Real Madrid on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old Argentine flew into Manchester on Monday evening and was driven to United's Carrington training complex where he will undergo a medical.

Di María could make his United debut in the Saturday lunchtime fixture against Burnley at Turf Moor alongside compatriot Marcos Rojo, who is waiting to receive a work permit.

After years of relative parsimony under Sir Alex Ferguson, United are about to break the club record fee for a player for the second time in seven months, following the £37.1m arrival of Juan Mata in January.

The signing of Di María will take the club's summer spending up to £131.7m, more than any other club on the continent.

United have experienced their worst start to a season since 1992 under Louis van Gaal with an opening day home defeat to Swansea and draw at Sunderland.

Van Gaal described the squad he inherited as "broken and unbalanced" and with the transfer window open for one more week United could yet make further acquisitions.
