Carl Froch And George Groves Rematch Set For May

Carl Froch and George Groves have finally agreed to a rematch of last November's blockbuster, Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn has announced.

The British super-middleweight rivals will clash for a second time on May 31 to settle the dispute over Froch's controversial ninth-round stoppage at the Manchester Arena.

Froch's IBF and WBA titles will be at stake once again, and news of the rematch will be welcomed across the sport.

"Quite simply, I believe this is one of the biggest fights in British boxing history," Hearn said.

"It was one of the most epic and exhilarating fights I've ever witnessed, and I'm delighted the public are going to get a chance to see it all again."

Underdog Groves floored Froch in the first round and was ahead on the scorecards having dominated the fight when referee Howard Foster intervened as the resurgent Froch fired a barrage of shots.

Although the tide appeared to have turned against Groves, Foster's decision to step in as the 25-year-old came under pressure was widely condemned for being too early.

It was spectacular fight that evoked memories of the great Nigel Benn-Chris Eubank-Michael Watson battles, but Froch has been reluctant to grant the rematch.

Hearn stated at the end of last month that negotiations were proving "frustrating", even once the IBF had stepped in to order they clash again.

Froch sought a Las Vegas showdown with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, but public opinion demanded that he faces Groves once more.
