Daniel Agger has signed a new long-term contract at Liverpool, gushing "it means everything" to him.

The Danish defender, 27, was the subject of interest from Manchester City during the summer transfer window but has given the Reds a boost by committing his future to the Anfield club.

Agger told Liverpoolfc.com: "It means everything to me. This is where I want to be and I'm happy the club want me. I am really happy right now. I've never wanted to go anywhere else.

"I feel I am a part of this club - and I want to be a part of this club in the future.

"The support from the fans has been unbelievable. The game when they were singing all the songs about me, it was difficult to focus on the game! It was such a good experience for me and I'd never experienced anything like it before.

Agger signed for the club in January 2006 from Brondby for a knockdown fee of £5.8m and has been a regular since the beginning of the 2006-07 season.

He has played under managers Rafael Benítez, Roy Hodgson, Kenny Dalglish and now Brendan Rodgers in his six-and-a-half-years on Merseyside but has only won the League Cup.

One of the stand out defenders at Euro 2012, the centre-back has made 177 appearances for the Reds, scoring nine goals.
