Transfer Talk: Tottenham Refuse To Talk To Real Madrid Over Gareth Bale

Spurs Refuse To Talk To Real Until They Increase Bale Bid
|

Wayne Rooney is "angry and confused", Gareth Bale is "unhappy and disappointed" and we are "tired and bored" of the pair of them. Hopefully, the Rooney issue might go away soon, but Manchester United aren't helping matters, if the Sun are to be believed this morning.

They claim the Premier League champions, who remarkably seem averse to both buying and selling players this summer, have rejected a "near-£30m bid" for the Croxteth striker, who could make his first pre-season appearance this week.

It is optimism, but this could be the week in which Chelsea's interest in Rooney develops to the point of signing him. He will be jeered, if not booed, by portions of United's support in Sweden, Manchester or London, when United travel to Scandinavia to face AIK on Tuesday, entertain Sevilla for Rio Ferdinand's testimonial on Friday and contest the Community Shield on Friday.

Bidding farewell sometime soon?

Chelsea still lack a number nine striker, a role which Romelu Lukaku deserves to fill in the interim, while that Juan Mata-plus-£10m story seems to have been some deliberate mischief-making on the part of Mr Chinny Reckon.

The Express, eager to help, report Rooney has told United manager David Moyes he wants to leave Old Trafford and will submit a written transfer request this week.

As suspected at the time, that Real Madrid-Tottenham partnership has been of little, or no, benefit for either club. Now Spurs will hold no further talks with Madrid until they increase their £80m/£83.6m/depending-on-which-paper-you-read's-figure for Gareth Bale, say the Telegraph.

"Unhappy and disappointed" Bale has conveniently not played a pre-season game the last fortnight or so and was absent for Spurs' thrashing at the hands of Monaco on Saturday. Maybe he shouldn't have naively risked pricing himself out of a transfer by signing a new contract last year.

"Unhappy and disappointed"

The Independent add Tottenham want Alvaro Morata as part of any deal. He's a significant upgrade on past makeweight Fraizer Campbell.

Newcastle United are hopeful of finally signing Loïc Rémy, seven months after he rejected them in favour of joining Harry Redknapp's sinking ship at QPR, write the Metro.

And the Magpies (or should that be Joe Kinnear?) failed to impress Darren Bent, so Crystal Palace have emerged as a possible destination for the unwanted Aston Villa striker, report the Mirror.
