Ryan Giggs Lambasts David Meyler's 'Terrible' Stamp On Adnan Januzaj

'It's A Joke': Giggs Lambasts Meyler's 'Terrible' Stamp On Januzaj
|

Ryan Giggs has urged the Football Association to retrospectively suspend Hull City midfielder David Meyler after his "terrible" stamp on Manchester United forward Adnan Januzaj.

Meyler appeared to rake his studs down Januzaj's leg by the corner flag in the 90th minute, as United played out a 3-1 win in their final home game of the season.

Meyler's challenge on Januzaj could land him in hot water with the FA

Referee Craig Pawson took no action against Meyler, yet replays showed he needlessly trod on Januzaj.

Fulham full-back Sascha Riether received a three-match ban for a similar foul on the Belgian in November, and should Meyler receive the same punishment he will miss the Tigers' FA Cup final with Arsenal on Saturday week.

"I didn't see it, but I've seen his leg," Giggs said. "It's the second time it's happened to him this season and it's not great to see. It is terrible, his leg.

"He needs protecting. He's a brilliant player, he's exciting and the authorities need to stamp down on it. I don't know what could happen now but it's bad. I've seen his leg and it's a joke.

"It's just the length. It's not cut into his skin, or anything, but it goes from his knee to his ankle."

When asked about Meyler's altercation with Januzaj, Hull boss Steve Bruce admitted it was the "first I've known about it. I can't really comment as I haven't seen anything just yet."
