Cardiff City and Swansea City might have disappointed as a spectacle but, as the below pictures demonstrate, there was plenty of entertainment off the pitch.
A toxic rivalry soured by Cardiff receiving the Senedd (Welsh Assembly), it has spanned decades, but the Welsh clubs' Sunday fixture was the first to take place in English football's top flight.
Steven Caulker's header on the hour mark proved to be enough for Malky Mackay's Bluebirds, who leapfrogged the Swans to move up to 12th.
Age was no barrier for one young fan as he goaded the visiting supporters, who received a police escort up the M4 and back.
With more police present than away fans, no arrests were made at Cardiff City Stadium despite some fraught exchanges.
