They've come toe-to-toe with each other on the pitch, but Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham, football's most expensive player and football's most famous player, posed together for the first time in Los Angeles this week.

Beckham was photographed with Portuguese Ronaldo after a Real Madrid training session at UCLA Campus in Los Angeles, where the Spanish side are touring.

Madrid's new coach, Carlo Ancelotti, managed Beckham at Paris Saint-Germain last season as the former England captain collected a Ligue 1 winners' medal.

Beckham and Ronaldo, together at last

Two legendary Manchester United number sevens, Beckham made 384 appearances for the Reds between 1992 and 2003, while his successor, Ronaldo, played 282 times under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Both players were instrumental in Ferguson's two greatest years, as United won the Treble in 1998-99 and a league and European Cup double in 2007-08.

Motivated by vitriol from the terraces after his red card at the 1998 World Cup, Beckham was exceptional for United, providing countless assists and hit vital goals against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur. Without his drive and resilience in the Champions League final, United might not have defeated Bayern Munich so dramatically.

Ronaldo struck 42 goals nine seasons later to cement his status as the best player in the world. He scored against all but two teams (Manchester City and Barcelona) he faced in an extraordinary campaign.
