Euro 2016 Draw: England To Play Wales, Russia And Slovakia In Group Stage Of Tournament

England was drawn against Wales in the group stage of the 2016 European Championship on Saturday. Roy Hodgson’s men will also play Russia and Slovakia in the opening matches of the tournament, which is hosted by France.

The Three Lions will start their campaign against Russia on the 11 June, play Wales on the 16th and finish up against Slovakia four days later.

Northern Ireland, making their debut in the tournament, are in Group C alongside world champions Germany, Poland and Ukraine. The Republic of Ireland faced the difficult task of climbing out of a group that includes Belgium, Italy and Sweden.

The opening game of the tournament will be on Friday 10 June as France take on Romania at the Stade de France. The 2016 tournament will be the largest in the competition's history, with 24 teams competing for the title.

The two top teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, along with the best four third-placed teams.

  • Group A: France, Romania Albania, Switzerland
  • Group B: England, Wales, Slovakia, Russia
  • Group C: Germany, Northern Ireland, Poland, Ukraine
  • Group D: Spain, Turkey, Czech Republic, Croatia
  • Group E: Belgium, Republic of Ireland, Sweden, Italy
  • Group F: Portugal, Iceland, Hungary, Austria
