Fernando Torres Considering Chelsea Future Over Unhappiness With Substitute Role

Torres Voices Doubts Over Blues Future

Fernando Torres has hinted his future may lie away from Chelsea despite the club's Champions League glory.

The Spaniard told compatriot and journalist Guillem Balague after Saturday's final victory over Bayern Munich he is dismayed with the role he has been allocated by the club this season.

"It’s contradictory because I feel like I’m at a peak moment in my career, with more desire and hunger than I’ve felt in a long time," he told Ballague in Munich.

"But I’ve had to spend the final on the bench. It was a huge disappointment when I saw the line-up, perhaps the biggest in my life.

"This season I have felt things that I never had before. I’ve felt like they treated me in a way that I didn’t expect and not in the way that was spoken of when they signed me.

"We’ve had a lot of talks and we’ll talk about my future, because the role I’ve had this season is not for me, nor is it the one I expected to play when I came here. I’m not comfortable.

"I want them to tell me what is going to happen in the future. I’ve been through a difficult time. The worst in my career. There’s been many times when I’ve felt lost, I wasn’t sure what to do. I felt like I didn’t know where I belonged.

"I need the club to tell me what is going to happen and what sort of role I will have within the team, what my duties are and what the club expects of me. And then judge whether it is worth it."

Signed by the Blues for £50m from Liverpool in January, Torres didn't score his first goal for the club until his 15th game against West Ham United.

This season, he went a day shy of five months without a goal and has only struck in the Premier League on seven occasions during his 16 months with the west London side.

The 28-year-old scored 11 goals in 2011/12, including the memorable semi-final winner against Barcelona and a hat-trick against QPR five days later, but he has been marginalised by the prowess of Didier Drogba.

Drogba, 34, scored the winner in the FA Cup final against Liverpool and sealed the club's first ever European Cup conquest from the spot-kick at the weekend, having equalised in normal time.

Torres had actually volunteered to take one of the five penalties in the shootout, but was overlooked by manager Roberto di Matteo, much to his visible disgust.

But with a Drogba departure feasible in the summer as the club refuse to grant him a two-year extension, Torres is believed to be set for the striker's role next term in the Ivorian's absence, making the timing of his quotes baffling.
