Mackay To Be Named Palace Manager As Sherwood Is Overlooked

Malky Mackay will be named as the new Crystal Palace manager following Tony Pulis' departure last week.

Mackay, out of work since his controversial sacking by Cardiff City owner Vincent Tan in December last year, will be reunited with the Bluebirds' former technical director Iain Moody at Selhurst Park.

Pulis left Palace following a meeting with co-chairman Steve Parish last Thursday, but tensions between the two had been simmering since the turn of the year.

Mackay experienced four months as a Premier League manager last season

The former Stoke City manager was frustrated by Palace's lack of activity in the transfer market, having made just four signings and seen prime targets Gylfi Sigurdsson and Steven Caulker join Swansea City and Queens Park Rangers.

Palace, however, have been in administration twice this century and Parish is determined to help keep the club in the Premier League frugally.

The Eagles were seconds away from a well-earned point at Arsenal on Saturday but Aaron Ramsey pounced to net a stoppage-time winner at the Emirates Stadium. Keith Millen, who was in caretaker charge following Ian Holloway's sacking last year, took over from Pulis for the opening day fixture.

Mackay presided over Cardiff's promotion to the Premier League in 2013 but his working relationship with Tan quickly disintegrated in the top flight and he was dismissed shortly after Christmas.

Tim Sherwood, who managed Tottenham for six months last season, was also considered by Parish.
