Manchester United have gone seven points clear at the top of the Premier League after a dramatic win against Newcastle United followed Manchester City's loss at Sunderland.

City, who failed to beat Sunderland last season, went down to former winger Adam Johnson's winner while Javier Hernández pounced in stoppage-time to earn United an enthralling victory at Old Trafford. James Perch, a controversial Jonny Evans own goal and Papiss Cissé thrice gave Newcastle the lead but Evans, Patrice Evra and Robin van Persie all responded for the Red Devils. Then Mexican Hernández slid in the dictatorial Michael Carrick's supreme through ball in added time.
