Ferdinand Shown 'A Total Lack Of Respect'

Rio Ferdinand's representative has accused the Football Association of showing a "total lack of respect" after the England centre-back was again overlooked by Roy Hodgson for the European Championship squad.

Liverpool right-back Martin Kelly has been called up to replace Gary Cahill, after the Chelsea defender sustained a double-fracture of the jaw in the 1-0 defeat of Belgium on Saturday.

And Jamie Moralee told the Press Association: "Lampard, Terry, Barry, Gerrard; all ageing but they go to the tournament. Why is Rio different? To treat a player that has captained and served his country 81 times (in this manner) is nothing short of disgraceful. Total lack of respect from Hodgson and the FA as far as I am concerned."

Terry will go on trial at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 9 July charged with allegedly racially abusing Ferdinand's brother Anton during a Premier League match last year.

Hodgson stated he overlooked Ferdinand due to "footballing reasons", and cited him making just one appearance for the national side over the last year as reason for his omission.

But the selection of one-cap Kelly, who played only 21 games for Liverpool last season, and new England captain Steven Gerrard playing 33 minutes in 19 months prior to the friendly win over Norway last month casts doubt on the 64-year-old's comments.

"What reasons?????!!!" was Ferdinand's first reaction to his 2.8million Twitter followers as debate raged this afternoon, indicating a sense of disenchantment.
