Serena Williams Vs Garbiñe Muguruza Sees American Win Wimbledon Women's Singles For Sixth Time

Serena Williams Has Won Wimbledon Again - But What A Fight
|

Serena Williams has won her sixth Wimbledon title, beating Garbiñe Muguruza to lift the Venus Rosewater Dish yet again.

The Spaniard fought bravely and gave Williams the runaround right up the end of the ladies singles final, but the American proved too strong in the end, winning in straight sets.

The tennis titan won the title 6-4 6-4, after some hard-fought points at the end of the match.

Williams now holds the grand slam after winning all four major titles, prompting the hashtag #SerenaSlam to be used on Twitter.

The world number one now holds 21 grand slams - needing just one to beat Steffi Graff's record.

Her sister and past Wimbledon winner Venus was in the crowd cheering her sister on, tweeting her congratulations afterwards.

Many tennis fans online cheered Williams but also praised world number 20 Muguruza for her efforts against the champion:

This was the 21-year-old's first time in the final compared with Williams' eighth.

But the champ admitted that Muguruza had really pushed her, telling Sue Barker: "There was definitely pressure towards the end.

"Garbine started playing really well and I just had to think to stay out there and work really hard."
